Kacey Roberts, 23, doesn't remember a
time when singing wasn't an important part of her life.
From
a very young age she sang at church, school and special events
around the area, including the Peach and Melon Festival pageants
each year.
And even though she chose nursing as
her profession, singing is still her passion.
“I love to sing and I love to have
people enjoy my singing as well,” Kacey said. “And even though I
love nursing, I would love to be able to sing professionally.”
She might just get that chance.
Earlier this month, Kacey auditioned
for the Millie Lewis Actors, Models & Talent Competition (AMTC) in
the metroplex, and was accepted into the Christian-centered and
family-oriented talent development company’s program.
It is billed as an experience designed
to “educate, uplift, and present performers to an array of the best
agents, managers and casting directors in the world.”
“These agents will judge competitions,
teach you in seminars, and talk with you personally during
interviews,” Kacey said. “I received a call the morning after the
audition that I had been selected for AMTC! So now I will be going
to Florida July 6-11 for the main competition which will be held at
the Gaylord Palms Resort.”
Kacey, the daughter of John and Kay
Hodges, views this as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and although
she’s excited about participating, she’s not nervous.
“Honestly this is the least nervous I
have ever been,” she said.
Kacey, a 2004 DHS graduate, heard about
the audition on the radio while driving home from her job at a
Granbury care center recently.
“Immediately a feeling came over me and
I knew that I was supposed to be at that audition,” she said.
“Come to find out the audition was in
three days! So I told my husband Thomas that we were going to
Dallas.”
Thomas, who underwent a kidney
transplant in 2008, is proud that his wife is a nurse -- but he also
understands and supports her desire to be singer.
“I’m not sure where this is going to
lead,” Kacey said, “but I do know that this is a door that God has
opened for me and I’m willing to see what he has in store for my
life. I love being a nurse but I have always wanted to be a singer
as well! So if the right opportunity presents itself to me I will
jump on it in a heartbeat”
Although she’s been accepted into the
AMTC program, Kacey must still find the necessary funding to
complete the program. She and her family have fundraisers -- bake
sales, brisket sales, etc. -- planned for the very near future.

“I have total faith that God is in
control,” she said, “and he will lead me to where I need to go.” |
