William Brody Hammonds, the 18 year old
son of Brad and Christi Hammonds, has been named valedictorian of
the DeLeon High School class of 2008.
Brody,
who will graduate with a 4.11 grade point average, said he has
enjoyed his high school experience and is looking forward to going
to the University of Texas.
“I’m going to the business school,”
Hammonds said, “and I’m hoping for something in administration or
entrepreneurship, that kind of thing. I can see myself being an
executive officer or a real estate broker -- that type of thing.”
Although he doesn’t have any plans for
permanent relocation at this time, Hammonds said he does like the
Austin area.
“I go down there and see Taryn (his
22-year-old sister) a lot,” Hammonds said, “and I really like it
there.”
Brody said his junior year of high school
was the best.
“We were old enough to do the things we
wanted to do then,” he said, “but we didn’t have to take college
classes yet. And we went to state in One-Act that year, and we made
it to play-offs in football and basketball -- a lot of things went
well for us that year.”
In addition to One-Act, and basketball,
Brody’s high school activities also included UIL. He is a member of
the National Honor Society and was president of the freshman class,
as well as the senior class, and was vice president of the sophomore
class. He was also senior president of the Student Council.
In his spare time Brody said he enjoys
playing guitar and, occasionally, fishing. He is also active in his
church, DeLeon First Baptist.
In the summertime, Brody likes to be “out
at the lake.”
“I do a lot of water sports in the
summer,” Brody said. “I ski, kneeboard, wakeboard and tube.”
Although not a big fan of television,
Brody said he does enjoy watching comedy and action movies, and
counts Hawaiian Jack Johnson among his favorite musicians.
Brody believes a big part of his high
school success is due to his parent’s support. He also cites three
teachers as being especially positive influences on him: Diana
Denson in elementary school, Leisa Nowlin in middle school, and
Michelle McIlvain for high school English and Theater Arts. |
